Rich and glowing tributes were paid to late Ardeshir Cowasjee for his outstanding philanthropic and humanitarian services at a condolence meeting held in Aga Hassan Abedi Auditorium on November 29, 2012 attended by the faculty and staff of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).

The meeting was presided over by Dr Adib Rizvi the founder and Director of SIUT. Paying tributes to late Ardeshir Cowasjee he said he was an outstanding human being and an outstanding Pakistani. Dr Rizvi said undoubtedly Cowasjee was the conscience to the cosmopolitan Karachi. His fearless writings and raising voice on public issues would always be remembered.

He disclosed that Cowasjee who was a great friend and supporter of SIUT came in contact with the institution for over three decades and his association enriched SIUT with donation of 3 lithotripters housed in the Cowasjee Lithotripsy Unit dedicated to Rustom Fakirjee Cowasjee and recently an angiography machine benefiting the underprivileged segment of the society. He remained a true friend of SIUT till his death.

Dr Anwar Naqvi of SIUT moderated the session paying rich tributes to late Ardeshir Cowasjee remembering the donation of the first dialysis machine in the memory of his wife in 1993. A 24-unit dialysis centre at SIUT is named after his illustrious mother Mucca Cowasjee. He said Cowasjee was amongst the first who pledged to donate his organs for the benefit of dying humanity. He took an active part in deceased organ donation programme. A two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for the departed soul.-PR
